App Smackdown- Microsoft Excel

As a future Policy analyst I understand the importance of keeping data organized. Especially when working with a large number of variables. Microsoft excel is generally used for data organization or general statistical work. It is an excellent tool for research projects, but that is not its only use. People overlook many of the features presented by this app, but Excel is for students as well as researchers. It is functional accessible and intuitive on all platforms it is on. For intuitiveness, excel has a very simple and easy to follow layout. It has clearly marked times to help organize current projects. It also provides templates to help users with future projects. These templates can be used for both personal and career use. Another great aspect of Microsoft excel is the functionality of its programming. While it is true this platform can be used by non-researchers, many of its features are geared towards that audience. For example, the f(x) button in excel is used to help researchers fill in unknown information with the known mathematical equation. It auto fills the answers for their users. This feature alone can save a person hours of work.

Like I said, before Microsoft excel is very intuitive to what users might need. Similarly to a word document, Microsoft excel has tabs at the top of the page where you can find different features to help enhance your project. In excel, they have a insert feature where you can insert graphs and charts as needed. They also have a page layout feature to help users adjust data outlines as needed. Excel is also very accessible. It is available as a website, as a mobile app, and as a download extension for desktop. Just like the website version the mobile version is very similar. It has all the same organizational tabs and templates. Just like the website version the mobile version of Microsoft excel also allows multiple sheets of da ta to be in one project. Microsoft excel is an amazing tool not just for researchers, but for students.

  1. Hi! Excel is a great tool for both one’s personal life and professional life. I do not use this app often but in the future, I can see myself using it a lot. It is a great tool for budgeting and finances because of the formula tool. I love that there is a template tab so you can access different formats and styles of documents. Thank you for providing me more insight into Excel.
